Bertie and Lucy Wright took over at Wells Farmshop during the summer of 2019.
Both have a vast amount of experience within hospitality, having worked at Oxford’s finest hotels and restaurants of Gees, Quod and The Old Parsonage.
Berties kitchen experience also led him to work for acclaimed chef and writers Stephane Alexander and Judy Rogers in Melbourne, Australia and San Fransisco, USA.
Wells will continue to offer it’s high levels of hospitality, driven by the amazing team. The food we serve will be based on a British farmhouse kitchen, with inspiration from our travels, driven by our local artisan suppliers with an emphasis for sourcing quality ingredients.
Wells Farmshop was originally the local village shop in Streatley, run by the Wells sisters, hence the name! In 1953, the shop was taken over by Major Patrick Rance.
The monacled Major is famous in the cheese world and largely credited with saving the artisan cheese culture in Britain with his passion and charisma.
In 1990, the business moved to Abingdon, under the management of Gill Draycott. In 1999, she moved the business to Peach Croft Farm and since then the business continues to grow.
